Outaouais

The Ottawa River, separating Quebec from Ontario and the entire region bear the name of an ancient Anishnabe (Algonquin) band that occupied the territory at the time of the arrival of the first Europeans. Two of the nine Algonquin communities live in the Ottawa region today and give life to the Anishnabe culture, which continues to thrive in a natural setting and near cities that still have Algonquin names.
