Eeyou Istchee, Baie-JamesBetween the 49th and 55th parallels, Eeyou Istchee is the home of the Cree nation and the largest freshwater basin in the province of Quebec. For more than 5,000 years, the Crees have been crisscrossing the area's dense forests dotted with lakes and rivers as far north as the taiga. Of the nine Cree communities, four are on the shores of James Bay and one is in Hudson Bay, while the remaining four are farther inland.

Quebec Aboriginal
Referred to as “Indians” and then “American Indians” a little later on, today they are more accurately referred to as the “First Nations” for the indigenous or aboriginal peoples of Canada, “Inuit” for the Aboriginal people of Northern Canada and “Métis" for the people of mixed ancestry.
