Eeyou Istchee, Baie-James

Eeyou Istchee, Baie-James

Between the 49th and 55th parallels, Eeyou Istchee is the home of the Cree nation and the largest freshwater basin in the province of Quebec. For more than 5,000 years, the Crees have been crisscrossing the area's dense forests dotted with lakes and rivers as far north as the taiga. Of the nine Cree communities, four are on the shores of James Bay and one is in Hudson Bay, while the remaining four are farther inland.
