Bas-Saint-Laurent, GaspésieIn the area where the St. Lawrence River ends its meandering course toward the sea, where vast mountainous lands, rivers, valleys and islands abound, the Quebec Micmacs and Maliseets set up their camps and enjoyed the bountiful nature that surrounded them. Today, they invite visitors to their ancestral sites, to fish for salmon and practice other activities while discovering an age-old lifestyle inspired by the beauty of the seaside.

Quebec Aboriginal
Referred to as “Indians” and then “American Indians” a little later on, today they are more accurately referred to as the “First Nations” for the indigenous or aboriginal peoples of Canada, “Inuit” for the Aboriginal people of Northern Canada and “Métis" for the people of mixed ancestry.
