Abénakis

Abenakis

Native of lands that today make up the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, this nation has been established in Quebec since the 17th century. The name "Abenakis" comes from the word "Wabanaki" which means "land of the rising sun". The Abenakis are known for their ash and sweet grass baskets, traditional dances, symbolic sun masks made from corn leaves and totems.
